Could Ainge Be Stupid Enough To Let Rondo Walk Away?

Back in the 1980’s during the era that the Boston Celtics had the original “Big Three” of Larry Bird, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale New York Vinnie was in his teens. If you are a regular reader of this page you are well aware that New York Vinnie is in no way, shape or form a Boston Celtics fan. But during that time as much as I wanted them to lose New York Vinnie could never really Hate the Celtics because they were such a classy team. Except for one guy and he got all of New York Vinnie’s venom each time I watched Boston. His name was Danny Ainge.
Ainge who was one of the starting guards for the Celtics was the kind of guy that if he was on your team you loved him! You would call him a scrappy competitor who never backed down and would challenge every call. But if Ainge played on the other guy’s team you Frickin despised him just like New York Vinnie did! Danny Ainge was a Frickin Whiny PUD that you wanted to sissy-slap at least three or four times during the game.
After Ainge retired from playing he became head coach for the Phoenix Suns. However he left that job saying he wanted to devote more time to his family. A few years later he went back to Boston and became their Director of Basketball Operations and in his first few years looked like he didn’t have a Frickin clue.
Well in the Summer of 2007 Ainge showed the World Of Basketball he knew exactly what he was doing as he was able to pick up Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in trades and Boston won their first NBA Title since 1986 the following June. With the addition of veteran big man Rasheed Wallace during this summer New York Vinnie believes that the Celtics will win the Finals again this upcoming June if the team stays healthy and focused.
Well the “Boston Globe” is reporting that there is trouble in paradise; and that the Celtics window of opportunity may only be open for just one more season. According to the paper Boston may very well be in danger of losing their most underrated player point guard Rajon Rondo at the end of the season. It turns out for some stupid Frickin reason Ainge told a reporter that he does not believe that Rondo is a max-contract type of player.
When the Celtics made their run for the NBA Title in 2007-2008 the only concern was that their point guard Rajon Rondo would be the weak link in the chain. The guard was just heading into his second season in the NBA and here he was having to distribute the ball to Garnett, Allen and Paul Pierce and to quarterback the offense. Rondo was more than up to the challenge as he averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game in the regular season. He also out played L.A. Lakers point Derek Fisher in the NBA Finals which was a big factor in Boston getting the victory in the series.
Last season Rondo showed more growth as his regular season numbers were 11.9 points, 8.2 assists and 5.3 boards per game in the regular season. So naturally when word got back to Rajon about Ainge’s stupid statement the guard was none too happy. Rondo can become a Free Agent at the end of the season and as of right now it does not look like Boston will be the city he signs his next contract with. Rondo was asked if he was hopeful about coming to terms with the Celtics and he responded “Not really. I’m just playing it out, trying to get better every day.”
If I was Danny Ainge right now I would be Frickin freaking out and trying to come up with a way to get back on Rondo’s good side. Is Rajon Rondo in the class of a Chris Paul or a Deron Williams? No, those two guys are head and shoulders above everybody else in the league. But he may be the next step down, Rondo showed that he is a big factor in his own right in helping the Celtics be possibly the best team this season in the NBA. Point guards like that do not come around very often so you have to hold onto one if you have them on your team.
So Danny if you want to keep putting banners up in the rafters you make sure you retain Rajon Rondo. And Rajon if you truly want a new home New York Vinnie will be your personal tour guide of New York City if you sign with the Knicks!

New York Vinnie will never start a fight, but he's not afraid to finish one.. Mess with New York Vinnie and he'll rip your nuts off and throw them down the sewer!
