Using Technology to Enhance your Basketball Program “A basketball coach’s guide to being more efficient” Technology has rapidly become a big part of our society and as a result has changed the way we communicate and interact with each other.  Our kids live in a technology driven world that is constantly changing.  New devices and communication resources are continually being developed and as basketball coaches we have to be willing to adjust to the times and use it to help our programs.  Effective basketball coaches are the ones that are willing and able to adapt to their players and their surroundings.  That includes adjusting what you may do on and off the court.  Most of your players will own a computer and or a cell phone so emailing and texting is something that you can use to communicate with your players.  It may be sending a text or email to your players and parents about reminders of practice times or about game day information.  It could also be used to give individual players encouraging comments such as “Good practice today. Keep it up.” or “Good luck on your math test today.”  A small comment can go a long way in helping your relationship with the players and team chemistry between players.  Also, you can use email and text to send game results to media outlets such as the local paper or other sources that may be willing to post information about your program.  Texting can be an easier, more...

The First NBA Hispanic Owner

The NBA has just increased its Hispanic Ownership by 1. Congrats to Alex Meruelo as the new owner of the Atlanta Hawks. This is his direct quote on ownership: I wasn’t quite fast enough, tall enough or quick enough, so those dreams didn’t quite get me that far,” he said. “But those dreams brought me the burning desire to be involved in the NBA. It’s something I’ve always wanted my entire life to somehow be a part of the NBA. Meruelo said “it’s a privilege and I’m honored” to be the league’s first Hispanic majority owner At least we have one feel good story during this lockout. Lets hope that Alex will be able to spend some money to enable the Hawks to remain...

The 500,000 Dollar D-League Play

Bruce Pearl was offered 500,000 dollars to be the next coach of the Texas Legends. Give it to Mark Cuban. Only he would spend that kind of money on his minor league affiliate. Granted, Donnie Nelson (President of Basketball Operations for the Mavs) is a co-owner and mouthpiece of the Legends. He may be doin the talking but this is a Cubanist play. Cuban has officially turned into my generation’s George Steinbrenner. He might as well keep his investment relevant. IT ain’t like basketball is going on. This play is genious. Hire a disgraced ex-NCAA Coach who is awaiting punishment from the NBA. His options are limited: A) Sign with the Legends B) work in TV for ESPN or the like. By increasing the salary to 500k Nelson takes TV out of the mix. Bruce Pearl would be mentally deficient if he didn’t take this gig. Congrats to Bruce for being in the right place at the right time after getting canned from Tennessee. —-editor’s note: Since we have no NBA basketball I’m going to reinvent LB until then. I’m going to go more TMZ style while just reporting the major news. Might as well turn LB into a soap opera till...
