WTF?!?! Deron Williams A NET? This Is The Wacky World Of The NBA

I have always liked Billy King. He got a bum rap in Philly. King is the last GM to take the Sixers to the NBA Finals. In fact, the Sixers have sucked since he left. King stole his cross river rival’s thunder. Though Chris Paul strongly dislikes this trade I’m sickly impressed. Jersey needed to snag someone to fill those seats in the Newark Arena. People aren’t going to go there unless they got something stellar to look at. Deron Williams is stellar. His is a bit of a hot head and contributed to Sloan’s retirement meltdown. This may have been Jazz retaliation to turf him to Newark, NJ. Just think Deron now has Snooki to hang wit.  If you can handle his temper he is perhaps the best point in the game. Lets see if the “foe” coach  Avery Johnson can. Devin Harris was good but not great. He averaged 15 PPG. Williams averages 21. Harris averages 7.6 assists. Williams averages 9.7. Its an improvement no doubt! Williams gives the Nets a headliner. Something they yearned for with the Russian mobster at the helm of the franchise. However, losing Favors hurts. His upside was big. Though the Nets were not using him nearly as much as they could have. Favors was only averaging 20 minutes per game and had mediocre stats (6 pts, 5 boards). Billy King logic – Deron William’s skillset can increase Lopez’s production. Lopez is having a personal best in scoring 19 PPG. His rebounding has dipped to 6 RPG. I attribute that to the D-league players around him. Opposing D’s can just key in on Lopez. Williams is much better at the pick and pop and pick and...

The Lakers Are A Latino Tradition

The Buss family are successful in business for a reason. They know their demographic and realize that there is more to Lakers ball then the black and white folk. The fastest segment of growth in NBA viewership is the Latino segment. While states like Arizona war over illegal immigration the LAKERS court latinos with their own Spanish speaking regional Lakers channel. I envy the savviness of the Lakers management. They know how to capitalize on trends. Management realizes three things – 1) Kobe is aging 2) Coach Zen is headed off to a nursing home 3) Pau Gasol is a latino star. With the sizzle cooling they transition over to a fan base that doesn’t care about winning as long as they understand what is being said. The majority of Latinos consider themselves Lakers fans! Heck, I would like to personally invite every Latino to visit Lebasketbawl. Anyone with a speck of latin blood come on down to the baloncesto blog party! If you comment in Espanol I’ll return the favor!  While the Lakers are rocking the NBA is floundering. They have to pander to the only demographic that is actually growing! Instead of David Stern pounding the drum for the Hornets to relocate to of all places VANCOUVER he should be looking into Mexico City! The Canadian thang is so yesteryear! Its time to go South of the Border! The Mexico City Cartels sounds like a great name! Mexico City has 21 million people in their metro area. Sounds like enough Mexicans to support 2 franchises! I say move the the Sacramento Kings! I’m sure the Maloofs would love that since they have always been the whipping boys of the California teams! Mexico may even...

Carmelo’s Valentine Day Gift – His Massive Ego

Carmelo Anthony is back to his old tricks. They remind me off the way he acted when Allen Iverson was his teammate. The only difference between now and then is he didn’t “foe” reference God. Carmelo did some Veggie Crunch Prayer and Purge for 21 days. Next he will sign a multi-million dollar endorsement for the The Hallelujah Diet. NBA athletes know no bounds when it comes to making a quick buck. You know what Melo found after his 21 days of fruits, veggies, and prayers? His Ego! Here is the exact quote courtesy of blacksportsonline. “It takes a strong-willed person, a strong-minded person to go out there and deal with the stuff I deal with and still go out and work every day and perform on a nightly basis,” Anthony said. “I take my hat off to myself for dealing with all the stuff that’s going on and still be able to play at the highest level I can play at. I don’t really think the average person can walk in my shoes.” Carmelo Anthony should be forced to go work in a steel factory or go lay carpet for 10 years to understand hard physical labor. Better yet he should go frame 50 houses for Habitat for Humanity! That is work! What he does is a game. A Game! Yes, it requires some work to stay in shape and to jet around the country. Can you sense the sarcasm? Give me a break. Melo lives the privileged life. He doesn’t know hard physical labor. He doesn’t understand the concept of working two jobs like Big Russ to support his family. The irony is I...

Kobe’s Gonna Play in Italy?

As ya’ll know I worship the ground Kobe Bryant walks on. However, I don’t believe his newest threat about going to play in Italy. The funniest part? Danilo Gallinari said he would go play with him. Can you envision a Italian team led by Gallinari and Bryant? I really would believe hell froze over if this happened. Bottom line – Bryant is trying to hold the line. He doesn’t want “his NBA” to make a poor CBA agreement. He feels a ethical responsibility to the players to make sure that a new deal gets done. By balking and acting like he would go play in Europe he is setting the stage for some “legit” negotiations. Basically passing the ball over to Stern. David Stern is a pompous ass but he is not a dumb man. He knows that his best player risking injury playing in Italy is idiotic. However, the question is who will call a spade a spade? The NBA knows that this is a poor economy. If there is a work stoppage it will be hard to get the fans to come back. Fans are not going to have a tolerance for owners and players crying about making more money. Lets hope the NBA gets this done quickly and quietly. Something the NFL failed to...

The New Black Mamba: Blake Griffin

In honor of lebasketbawler reignman I decided to delve into my observation. Kobe Bryant achieved the nickname “black mamba” for his amazing achievements on the court. No one can argue his place in history. His accomplishments are endless. He has numerous all-star appearances, championships, scoring titles, and gold medals. However, every great athlete has to recognize when his time is winding down. Kobe has already eluded to this by “not practicing” half of the season due to “lack of cartilage” in BOTH his knees. He is practicing now to try to eclipse greatness and father time. The jury is still out as to whether he can harness another championship with the Lakers aging roster. Reignman believes in his heart that Kobe has 3-4 more years left at this level. Kobe’s current 2010-11 stats are the following: 25 PPG, 5 assists, and 24 minutes. His points have trended down the past five years from a high of 2005 when he scored 35.4 PPG. His assists have held steady at 5 APG. Kobe is great and he is one of the “elite” in the association. One can not argue that his window is closing and at best he has 2 seasons left at his current production. Blake Griffin has came on strong this year. He is currently averaging 23 PPG, 13 boards, and 38 minutes. His dunks are reminiscent of the MJ years. He is a powerful force who has single handily refreshed the Clippers franchise. His star is rising and soon my prediction will be correct. He will be a more powerful draw then Kobe. Barkley sees it to. He...
