Williams Rewarded With Five Year Pact By Philadelphia
One of my personal heroes, the late great Red Auerbach, used to say it’s not who starts the game it’s who is out the floor at the end of the game that matters. While that is still true in 2008, a new variation to Red’s observation may go along hand in hand with this. It’s not where you are drafted it’s what you are making after your third year in the Association that matters. Philadelphia 76ers reserve point guard Louis Williams is a perfect case in point. Williams was drafted in the second round by the Sixers, the 45th selection over all. Williams was one of the best bargains in the Association this past season averaged 11.5 points, 3.2 assists, and was paid $770,610. But the player who just completed his third season in the Association, is no longer a bargain basement special. The “Philadelphia Inquirer” has reported that the Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement with reserve point guard Louis Williams that will keep him in a Sixers uniform for five years. The deal is reportedly worth $25 million over the length of the deal. Williams because he plays behind veteran starter Andre Miller may be one of the most underrated players in the Association. However the Sixers realize how valuable he is to the team, and rewarded the restricted free agent with the new pact.
